How I Got on this Path: Berklee BJs, $5, Mile-High Wigs and Matchmaking

I've been a jazz musician, flight attendant, travel writer, news reporter, model, matchmaker, life/ date and image consultant.  At 34 years old, and I feel like I have the wisdom of a 65 year old woman.  All my life I was told I had an old soul and I guess this is why I'm attracted to men much older than me.  I got married in a pastor's house and I knew as I was saying my vows, I didn't mean a word of it.  In fact, I wasn't sexually attracted to him either.  He was my best friend and fellow entrepreneur buddy and was SAFE.  I had the most bizarre marriage proposal known to man and I honestly have to save that for a whole nutha post.  Besides, I'm not ready to share it.  Maybe in a few more posts...we'll see.  Poor guy, I was hell on wheels at 21 and was fresh off the line as a flight attendant for a small United connection carrier out of Dulles, VA.  I was based in Chicago, IL and loved the soul, global cuisine and supper clubs where I learned the art of Chicago Stepping.  After I left that airline, I moved back to Birmingham for a spell and tried my hand at writing for 2 small local magazines "Urban___ (Something, I forgot) and "The Southsider".  I had to be an account executive at both and I soon learned that fancy title meant that I was responsible for bringing money to the operation.  They didn't pay but it gave me a great experience as a music columnist and writer.

I met Kerry (harmless ass name) at a seminar that was teaching black people how to invest in the stock market and day trade with simple techniques.  The brother that taught the class name was Terry Harris and he was a fucking genius.  This was a simple country man and eventually the SEC got jealous of a negro making these type of moves so they threw him in prison over some trumped up charges.  Anywho, when I made eye contact with him, I said "You're a gemini" and he was shocked and thought I knew him somehow.  I told him that all Gems have a little crazy twinkle in their eye.  Later, I learned about how brilliant this breed of man is.  I describe them as octopus that are able to have many things going on at once.  They are oftentimes fast talkers, chatty (as he was) and were upbeat, happy guys that like to have fun all the time.  If they were a dog, think Dalmatian.
He was 12 years my senior and was the perfect first husband a girl could ask for-from Chicago, ex-marine, tech support guy. (Great combo)

"I'd rather be an old man's sweetheart than a young man' fool anyway but I digress...

In 2011, I was furloughed as a private/charter flight attendant for NASCAR and moved back to Atlanta to start a different kind of dating company.  I took my unemployment of only $250 per week and started a brand.  Using Fiverr I was able to outsource quality work using freelancers from all over the globe.  Web/Graphic Designers, voice over artists, visual artists, new marketing pros and so many more were now at my disposal for on $5!!!  A guy I had met on Plenty of Fish dating site told me all about it.  He was a young entrepreneur that ran a successful graphic design company out of Buford, GA.  He drove a sick Mercedes and lived in a huge mini mansion in the suburbs of Buford, GA.  Now, when I originally got back to GA, the most I saw for myself was just writing a little ebook to give some dating advice and be done with it.  I wrote an ebook that showed women how to spot subtle behavior cues to know if a guy was emotionally unstable.  It was called "Top 12 Signs You're A Psycho/Stalker".  I released it in October 2011 (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and promoted my new matchmaking company and book in Alabama on an ABC and NBC affiliate.  Little did I know, this concept would turn into a full dating company that offered quality singles events with pre-qualified guest rosters.  We had a ball...

Art Groupie Therapy
Most recently in 2014 I've worked as a Peer Support Specialist working with men that suffered with Depression, Schizophrenia, HIV, and a host of other physical and mental challenges.  It was so intense and draining, yet it was the most rewarding experience of 2014.  I facilitated group therapy sessions that focused on Anger/Stress Management, Medication Compliance, Art Therapy, and Life Skills.

I studied Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music in Boston and worked with renown music therapist Brian Jantz at Harvard Medical Center (Judge Baker's Children School).  There I worked with children with emotional disabilites.  As a high school senior, I gave music concerts to senior citizens with Alzheimer's which my mom forced me to do and I'm so grateful I did.  That sent me down a path I'll forever thank her for.  This is where I had a front seat to the transformative power of music and it blew my mind.  The science behind sound alone will be a separate blog.  After I left Berklee, I became a flight attendant after 9/11.  November 2011 and experienced most of my juicy young adult years as a stewardess.  I was determined to be the classic, stereotypical image that we all know and love-Hot, fun, and every man's fantasy.  This was convenient for me at at 21 because I had just experienced a traumatic break up and left Berklee before I finished my Degree.  He was a beautiful, tall 6'4 piano prodigy from California.  I took his virginity, lied to him about it and pretty much rocked his world.  At 18 years old, I was experiencing love in such a deep way.  We talked about getting married and I was convinced he was my husband.  He was a jazz performer and played alongside legends that I would only meet in my wildest dreams.  So of course I was star struck too.  I'm not ashamed to admit it, he was brilliant!  We were also Christian extremists that could be a little obnoxious to hang around because we were very opinionated and had no tolerance for any other religion or faith.  I had lost my virginity a year earlier as a senior to another brilliant musician that I admired followed by another relationship during my first semester in undergrad with a saxophonist that was 7 years my senior and a junior at Berklee.  I guess I'm a groupie of sorts? I dunno, I was playing music too but it was clear they had were on another level with their technical ability.  Too afraid to tell my current boyfriend, I lied and said I was a virgin too.

Orange Moons and Oral Sex

We did lots of breast play and since I had some experience in oral sex (from a football star and bass player in Birmingham), I made him my project.  "Project Break-In"  I can vividly remember performing giving him a blow job to Erykah Badu's Orange Moon.  The whole album was a soundtrack to our many make out sessions in his dorm room. There was this one time, his orgasm was so strong that he farted and I felt so accomplished.  I think that may have been the start of my sexual prowess and habits later in my adulthood but that's a completely different post too.  Needless to say, as good Christians we felt guilty about our sexual escapades and would try to deny our urges to no avail.  One night, we were grinding and I moved my panties to the side and he entered me.  It didn't take long, before he wanted to orgasm and he got it all over his boxers.  I took his virginity.

Lyrics

I'm an Orange Moon

I'm an Orange Moon

Reflecting the light of the sun

Many nights he was alone

Many, many, many nights

His light was so bright that they turned away

And he stood alone

Every night and every day

Then he turned to me

He saw his reflection in me

And he smiled at me when he turned to me

Then he said to me

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

I'm an Orange Moon

I'm brighter than before

Brighter than ever before

I'm an Orange Moon and I shine so bright

Cause I reflect the light of my sun

I praise the day, he turned my way

And smiled at me

He gets to smile and I get to be orange, that I love to be

Primary instrument, clarinet @ The Alabama School of Fine Arts

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

Shine so bright

(Oh...)

He ruled the day, I ruled the night

(Oh...)

Shine, shine, shine

(Oh...)

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how good it is

How good he is, how god is

How good it is, how good it is

How good it is, how god is

How good it is, how good it is

I'm an orange moon

I'm brighter than before, brighter

Reflecting the light of the sun

Smile at me
